The family owned and leading Swedish brewery, Spendrups, have installed a space saving robotic solution for flexible sorting of returned glass bottles and crates.

MOTOMAN-MPL robots with Air Grip bottle grippers are handling returned glass bottles and their crates at Spendrups in Grängesberg

Spendrups is a family owned business, now in its fourth generation, originally founded in Grängesberg in 1897. It has grown to become Sweden's leading brewery with 1000 employees and a production of over 400 million litres of beverage per year.

In the brewery business returned bottles need to be separated according to colour before being washed and ready for production.  When moving their sorting station for returned 33 cl glass bottles to a new building, Spendrups had the opportunity of designing their own tailor made solution. Spendrups wanted to achieve a sorting station that was taking up less floor space than the one they were replacing, as glass bottles are in less demand. For working out the specific robotic solution in detail, Spendrups enlisted Kopparbergs Robotteknik who has successfully designed other robot cells for Spendrups.
